![]() Warm Up
![]() We are going to play Syllable Step-n-Say. Words can be divided into parts called syllables. We will take a step at the same time that we say each part of the word.
Watch me. The first word is "cowboy." The word "cowboy" has two
syllables. I'm going to take two steps, one for each syllable. I'll
say "cow" and take one step, and then "boy" and take another step. ![]()
![]() ![]() Let's do one together. Our new word is "baseball." How
many smaller words do you hear in the word "baseball"? Two. Let's take
two steps: "base" (step), "ball" (step).
If Correct: Good job. The word "baseball" has
two syllables: "base-ball," so you took two steps.
If Incorrect: Watch me and try to do what I do. Divide the word "baseball" into two parts. Step for each part: "base" (step), "ball" (step). ![]()

with the word "cupcake." Take a step for each syllable while saying
the part aloud. Ready? Go.
If Correct: Good
job! You're ready for some more words.
If Incorrect: Try it with me. What are the two syllables in the word "cupcake"? So how many steps will you take? Take a step while you say each syllable. ![]()
